What if we asked better questions?

We talk all day.

Messages.
Voice notes.
Comments.
Emails.
Reels.
Memes.

We’ve never had more ways to communicate.

And yet…

How often do we actually stop and ask someone:

How are you, really?

Not the automatic “I’m good.”

The real answer.

The one underneath.

Hi, I’m Kate.

Curiosity has always been a big part of how I move through the world.

Curious about people.
About what shapes us.
About what sits beneath the surface.
and the things we feel, yet don’t always have the words for.

I notice the little things. The pause before someone answers. The shift in their voice. The feeling in a room when something hasn’t been said. The difference between “I’m fine” and actually feeling fine.

There’s something about being around people that has always fascinated me… How much of ourselves we reveal without saying anything at all.

And perhaps because I’m naturally sensitive to those things, I’ve also spent a lot of time becoming curious about my own inner world.

For a long time, if someone asked: “How are you?”

I’d say: “Good.” Until one day I realised… Good isn’t a feeling.

It’s an answer. its an automated response. And that little realisation opened up a much bigger curiosity.

What am I actually feeling?

What do I need? What feels right? What doesn’t? What am I avoiding? What am I excited about? What am I afraid to admit?

And sometimes, before I could find the words, I noticed my body already knew.

The tightness. The ease. The hesitation. The quiet yes. The very clear no. Nothing complicated. Just slowing down enough to notice.

This is what I find so fascinating about being human.

We can spend years knowing someone… and still discover parts of them we’ve never met.

We can love someone deeply… and still have conversations we avoid.

We can be surrounded by people… and still feel completely unseen.

And often, the parts of ourselves we hide are the very things that could help someone else feel less alone.

The fear. The insecurity. The uncertainty. The hope. The thing we thought we were the only one feeling.

Those are the human parts. And when there is enough space to speak about them, something shifts.

We feel seen. We feel understood. We feel closer.

So I started asking better questions.

Not questions designed to test how well you know someone. Not questions with a right or wrong answer.

Questions that make you pause. Questions that make you think. Questions that sometimes make you laugh. Questions that might catch you completely off guard. Questions that open a door.

And eventually, those questions became Unspoken.

80 questions for the conversations that matter.

For the friend you’ve known for years. The person sitting beside you at the dinner table. Your family. Someone you’re just getting to know.

A conversation on a road trip. A quiet night at home. Or a few minutes alone with yourself.

Across Presence, Connection, Reflection and Expansion, Unspoken creates an invitation to slow down, put the phone away and become curious again.

Because sometimes we don’t need more communication.

We need more real conversation.

And sometimes… we just need a better question.

UNSPOKEN
80 questions for the conversations that matter.

One of my favourite parts of creating Unspoken so far has been watching other people experience it for the first time.

I printed a demo deck and took it into work, not really knowing what people would think.
Would the questions feel too deep?
Would people actually want to answer them?
Would they spark conversation?

I wanted to see whether the idea that had been living in my head could create something real between people. And the conversations, reactions and feedback I received were such a beautiful reminder of why I created Unspoken in the first place.

Here are some of the words they shared...

“Great that questions are grouped into 4 categories - allows user to choose direction of thoughts & conversation “

"I love the cards Kate, they are a beautiful way to prompt a question in times of need - especially when people can feel frozen, stuck or out of their body. Connection to self and others, well done!”

“I love how it makes me feel vulnerable which is definitely the point, would love to use these cards by myself and spend time writing my answers down.”

“I love the glossy cards and that they are grouped into different colours, I think that everyone needs a pack of these in every home, in these times of lost connection.”
